HALCYON has been said to cause a tranquil feeling, an overwhelming feeling of peace, joy and contentment. I felt this way as I painting it, too. I have a lot of stress in my life but it comes to nothing as I begin to brush color where I want it. The painting is done in Acrylic and mixed media. It is 54 inches by 54 inches squared; stretched cotton canvas with a gallery wrap.
"REMBRANDT" has been with me for a few decades. This is my FIRST attempt at the Classical Approach to Portraiture, under the guidance of the late, great Portrait Artist and Educator, FRANK COVINO. He was a partner with Norman Rockwell in educating many regarding painting life and all it's forms. Frank actually painted a portion of the left eye in this painting. This particular painting holds a great deal of who I have become in life. It holds great meaning. The painting is in oil and glazing through the Classical Approach to Portraiture. It is 20 inches vertical and 16 inches horizontally. The painting is on wood.
BLU was inspired from my last trip to Italy with my wife. On this trip, we went to the Sistine Chapel, to take a look around. Of course, I was impressed with all the artwork on the ceiling, those paintings that we know so well. However, I was equally astounded by the paintings near a doorway, leading to the next room. These paintings were usually of a single individual with an expression so readable across their face. This was one of them. What is she thinking? The painting is completed in Acrylic and mixed media. It is 11 inches by 14 inches vertically: on stretched cotton canvas.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
The seashore calls me and I come. God speaks loudly through His handiwork and I listen. I decided to put that into motion through an Acrylic and mixed media painting, complete with sand and shells. It is a 24 inch by 48 inch, stretched cotton canvas, horizonally.
THE DUKE was a hero of mine growing as a kid. He was not only my favorite
cowboys, he was just a "man's man," a guy I could glean from, whether on screen or in life.
I painted this for a sample of my work of what a standard oil approach to portraiture
would look like in that medium. The painting is 16 inches by 20 vertical on a stretched cotton canvas, standard oil painting style.
STAIN GLASS TIGER
This piece was inspired by a talented Stain Glass Artist's work. I wondered if I could paint something that wasn't "realist" in nature but in the style of stain glass... so I did. This painting is in Acrylic, 16 inches by 20 inches horizontally, on a stretched cotton canvas.
